NSE Stock Market Holidays & Timing in India 2025:

You can better understand the market and make more smart trade plans if you know how stock market timings operate.

The timings of the Indian stock market, the various trading sessions, NSE stock market holidays, and other important information like after-market orders and unique trading occasions like Muhurat Trading will all be covered in detail in this blog. Let’s get started!

What are Indian Stock Market Timings?

The hours of operation for the Indian NSE stock market are 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. At this point, the majority of transactions are dependent on the pricing of the market.
It is open Monday through Friday; however, on Saturday and Sunday, as well as on national holidays, it is closed.

What are Indian Stock Market Timings?

NSE India Stock Market Trading Hours

In India, there are three distinct sessions for NSE stock market trading:

Pre-opening session 9.00 AM to 9.15 AM
Normal Trading Session                                                                         9:15 AM to 3:30 PM
Post-closing session 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM

Let’s understand each of them in detail:

Pre-opening Meeting

There is a pre-opening session before the stock market begins at 9:15 AM.

The pre-opening session is a brief window of time between 9:00 AM and 9.15 AM before the regular trading session on a stock exchange. It is intended to lessen volatility at market opening and enable effective price discovery.

There are three distinct sessions for this season:

  • Order Entry Phase (9.00 AM to 9.08 AM):Investors and traders can place buy/sell orders during the order entry phase, which runs from 9:00 AM to 9.08 AM. If necessary, they can also change or cancel orders.
  • Order Matching Phase (9.08 AM to 9.12 AM): In this stage, the opening price of the securities is established by the exchange’s system matching buy and sell orders. During this stage, no more order cancellations or changes are permitted.
  • Buffer Phase (9.12 AM to 9.15 AM): The purpose of the buffer phase, which runs from 9.12 AM to 9.15 AM, is to facilitate a seamless transition from the pre-opening to the regular trading session. Following this session, the opening price is announced, and regular trading starts then.

Regular Trading Session

The typical time frame that stock exchanges permit investors to purchase and sell assets is known as a “normal trading session.” From 9:15 AM until 3:30 PM, traders are busily purchasing and disposing of stocks.

The supply and demand of the stock in the market are used to determine the price of the stock during this session.

After-closing Meeting

Two sessions can be distinguished in the Indian stock market’s post-closing session:

  • Between 3:30 PM and 3:40 PM: The weighted average technique of the last 30 minutes of trading (3 PM to 3:30 PM) is used to determine the closing price of stocks between 3:30 PM and 3:40 PM. The value of many indices, including the Sensex and Nifty, is determined by this price.
  • Between 3:40 PM and 4:00 PM: Investors can place orders for the following trading day between 3:40 and 4:00 PM. As long as there are enough buyers and sellers in the market, orders placed during this session are executed at the day’s closing price.

Timings of Block Deal Sessions

In the Indian stock market, a block deal session is a unique trading window for significant deals, typically involving institutional investors. Usually, the value of these transactions exceeds ₹10 crore.

Block deal sessions currently take place within two 15-minute intervals during a trading day:

  • Window for the morning: 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM IST
  • Window for the afternoon: 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM IST

India’s Stock Market Closing Time

The Indian stock market closes at 3:30 PM IST on Monday through Friday, which is the typical trading day. Additionally, it is closed on weekends and on holidays.

After Market Orders What Are They?

Investors have the option to put purchase or sell orders after the market closes thanks to after-market orders. These orders will be carried out during the following trading session, though, and are not completed promptly.

Investors who lack the time to monitor the NSE stock market during trading sessions will find this helpful.

Muhurat Trading What is it?

Although markets are often closed on weekends and public holidays, they do occasionally open. One such event is Diwali, when the NSE stock market is open for Mahurat Trading, a unique one-hour trading session.

The start of the Samvat calendar, the traditional Hindu fiscal year, makes the Muhurat trading session special.

Due to its cultural significance and symbolic meaning, this session draws traders and investors who think it will lead to success.
